’30km’ by Simon Faithfull, artist

This work, entitled ’30km’, 2004, is by contemporary artist Simon Faithfull. His website describes the work as follows: ‘Projected from above, the viewer looks down onto a circular screen to see the film of an incredible journey. 30Km was created by attaching a camera to a weather balloon which then transmitted its signal back before bursting at the edge of the atmosphere. The complete film is 32 minutes long and presents a journey from a face to the edge of space’. His website is well worth a look. I particularly like his ‘Standing Still (Earth Spin) proposal.
