‘Contained Mobility’ by Ursula Biemann, artist

These are stills from Swiss artist Ursula Biemann’s film ‘Contained Mobility’ made in 2004. To quote her site ‘the video project looks at the present condition emerging from the changes that occur in and around the regulations of movements to Europe with a focus on the sophisticated methods and technologies which have been developed on either side: on the part of the authorities to discipline the movement of goods and people and on the part of the passengers to outwit the restrictions and achieve mobility and security’. I must admit that Biemann is perhaps one of my favourite contemporary artists, due to her excellent video essays. As such, she is certainly an inspiration. To visit her site, click here.
